Me, Birds, Dream Catchers and the
name "BriskyRay"
Brisky’s
History
Hi, my
name is Guylaine. I was born and raised in the northern mining community of Val
D'Or, Québec and I now live and work in Toronto, Canada.
My Journey With Brisky
Brisky is
the name of my Peach-Faced Lutino Lovebird. Coincidentally, my friend Bonnie
gave her to me on my stepmother's birthday, Valentine's Day, 2001.

Brisky |
Brisky had
suffered extreme neglect by her first owner. Her second owner, Bonnie, acquired
Brisky and her mate and worked to rehabilitate their conditions physically and
socially. Sadly, six months later, Brisky’s mate died. Bonnie now had two
choices: 1) to get Brisky a new companion or 2) to find her a good home. The
precious gift I named Brisky came to me through Bonnie’s second choice and with
constant love, affection and attention, Brisky bonded very well with me. |

Although they had never met face to face, Raymonde,
my stepmother, who became seriously ill with pancreatic cancer, absolutely
adored Brisky for bringing sunshine into her life with her cheerful chirping.
During a visit with Raymonde, I noticed that
she had many Dream Catchers displayed around her bed. You see, she was part
Native Indian: the Montagnais Tribe from Québec. She was very proud of her
heritage and had a keen interest in Native Indian culture. She also encouraged
me to follow my passions; her words of wisdom inspired me to follow my heart and
subsequently determine what some of my "passions" were. |

Oscar & Hélène |
On the same visit, I happened
to reconnect with a very dear friend of mine, Hélène. She introduced me to the
love of her life, Oscar Kistabish. Oscar is a Cree/Algonquin Native Indian and
knew how to make these beautiful Dream Catchers and other crafts. I had saved
some of Brisky's moulted feathers and asked him if he would make me a Unique and
personal Dream Catcher.
He made me two beautiful little Dream Catchers
with Brisky's feathers. When I showed them to my bird-loving friends, they all
wanted one too! I kept sending him feathers on behalf of my friends until I
decided to ask him if he would teach me this beautiful craft. |
|
 |
Oscar & Hélène finally taught me the craft on
how to make his beautiful Dream Catchers during the Christmas season of 2001. Raymonde sadly passed away on May 20th, 2001. I decided to pay her a tribute by
way of including a part of her name with Brisky’s name and my evolving business
plans. Thus, BriskyRay Creations was born. |

[During the same time period,
my natural mother was battling breast cancer. I am grateful for my mother’s
eventual recovery and would like to dedicate my “FlowEssence
of Feathers” to Mother Suzy who taught me how to fly.]
Love always,
Guylaine, xox.
